The New York Knicks are enjoying life in the playoffs right now. They have a two-game cushion against the Philadelphia 76ers and are slowly turning the narrative in the Big Apple.

While Jalen Brunson deservedly gets all the credit, the other members of the Knicks also played a key part to the team’s success. Donte DiVincenzo is one of the players who specifically stood out during the past two games.

The guard had a more dynamic role during the team’s impressive Game 2 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, and his game-winner was the icing on the cake of an incredible postseason journey for the Knicks so far.

His play has been so solid that one beloved icon in Knicks history made a big comparison between him and another legendary player.

Walt Frazier compares Donte DiVincenzo to John Starks for his Game 2 heroics for the New York Knicks

Walt Frazier is a respected name in New York history, and people listen whenever the two-time NBA champion speaks about anything related to the Knicks.

After DiVincenzo’s epic game-winner, Frazier couldn’t help but compare him to John Starks, the dynamic point guard who played outstanding basketball for the Knicks during the 90s.

Per Kenneth Teape of NBA Analysis Network:

“He’s the second coming of John Starks man. He’s tenacious like Starks & hellacious…creates a little havoc on defense, excellent at getting in the passing lane, huffing & stuffing…can ignite a crowd,” Frazier said, via a Q&A with Steve Serby of The New York Post.

Starks was an impressive point guard for the Knicks. While he didn’t light up the stat board with his scoring prowess, he always made it a point to be effective in other areas of the game. His disruptive style of play helped the Knicks become a perennial playoff team in the 90s.

DiVincenzo getting such a comparison from one of the New York Knicks’ best is a testament to the kind of work he’s been doing all season. He’s been a reliable option for Tom Thibodeau’s side, netting an average of 15.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists on 44.3%/40.1%/75.4% shooting splits.

Their next two games won’t be easier as they have to play the Sixers at the Wells Fargo Center. But if Game 2 was anything to go by, fans can count on DiVincenzo and the Knicks to pull through with another gritty win.
